Meridian Theory
Author: Mauricio Quintana
Website: MauricioQuintana.com
2011-03-10 Excerpt: One of my teachers once indicated to me that in being a healer, it was of primary importance to take care of one's health, because one's 'field' was the primary influence one brought into the treatment room. How, he said, could I hope to help others be healthy if I didn't understand what that meant in my own self? This is one of the cornerstones of my understanding of this medicine and its practice. Our "fields" (our meridians) are the tools that allow us to interact with others, in this case our patients. This document represents an attempt at gathering tools to further that understanding. The concept of morphogenetic fields presents a useful tool for interpreting the meridians of Chinese medicine, and expanding our understanding of the scope of the theories that guide us in our work. Hopefully, through observation in clinical practice, it will be possible to draw further parallelism between these two concepts, and validate both theories as viable avenues for interpretation of the phenomena of human existence, as related to health and disease.

The Effects of Acupuncture Needle Manipulation on Fascia
Author: Julie Casper
Website: HappyHealthyClinic.com
2007-07-03 Excerpt: The correspondence of meridians to fascial planes, acupuncture points to the convergence of these planes, and the de qi sensation to a wave of connective tissue contraction and a sensory mechanoreceptor stimulation along fascial planes may help to explain what brings about the therapeutic effects of acupuncture treatments. This paper reviews and discusses recent research on connective tissue and fascia and the effects that acupuncture needle manipulation has on these structures.
